Melissa Scott
Mount Lebanon Methodist Church is grateful to have Melissa Scott serving as our Children and Youth Coordinator, investing in the next generation with care, consistency, and a steady focus on Jesus.
Melissa works with students in grades 3–12, helping lead a youth ministry built to keep kids connected to the church during the years when many start to drift. Her heart is simple: she wants students to be surrounded by people who will support them through the middle and high school years, and she wants them to learn how to lean on God in both the hard seasons and the good ones.
Weekly, Melissa leads youth gatherings on Sunday mornings for Sunday School and on Wednesday evenings from 6:00–7:00 PM. A typical night includes a devotional, prayer, games, and real conversation—a space where students can talk about what’s going on in their week and grow in faith without feeling judged or pressured. The group also plans occasional outings so students can build friendships and enjoy fellowship outside the church walls.
If you’re a parent, Melissa wants you to know how she leads: she treats every student the way she treats her own kids—she’s direct, caring, and approachable, and she encourages students to reach out if they need someone to talk to. She also takes safety seriously. Any adult who works with children at Mount Lebanon has completed background checks and Safe Sanctuary training.
Melissa has lived in Greenwood since college, and serving kids has been part of her life for as long as she can remember. Even before she and her husband had children, they were involved in children’s ministry together. Melissa sees this work as a gift God placed in her life—an opportunity to love kids well and point them toward Christ.
The core values Melissa wants students to grow in are straightforward and foundational:
● Love and trust in God
● Love others like Jesus
One passage that shapes how she lives and leads is Proverbs 3:5–6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding…” Melissa holds to this verse because it anchors her in the truth that God has a plan and timing we can trust—and she works to pass that steady confidence on to her students and her own children.
Outside of church, Melissa enjoys things that help her connect naturally with students and families—cooking, sports, and outdoor time like hiking and lake days. If you want to win her over with a meal, you’ll probably find her at The Mill House or Capri’s. Her favorite color is green, and a dream trip she hopes to take someday is to Italy.
Melissa’s message to students and families is clear: you are welcome. Students can show up as they are, and parents can trust that their children will be in a safe environment where they will be accepted, loved, valued, and encouraged as they grow in faith and learn to love like Jesus.
